History of North America

When General William T Sherman marched his Union troops through Georgia to the sea it was clear that?

Sherman's March to the Sea, which took place in November and December of 1864, was a military campaign designed to disrupt the Confederacy's ability to wage war by destroying vital infrastructure and resources.

By targeting civilian infrastructure and economic hubs, Sherman sought to break the South's will to resist. The campaign devastated large swaths of Georgia, particularly the coastal city of Savannah, which Sherman captured on December 21, 1864.
