Gupta Empire

The rule of the Gupta dynasty was started by Shri Guru, but the real ruler of this year was Chandragupta.

Chandragupta (319-335 AD)

It is known from the Gupta records that Chandragupta I was the first independent ruler of the Gupta dynasty. He had assumed the title of Maharajadhiraj. Chandragupta I established Samvat in 319-320 AD. There was a gap of 241 years between the Gupta era and the Shaka era. Chandragupta I was married to the Lichchavi princess Kumar Devi.

Samudra Gupta (335-375 AD)

After Chandragupta I, his son Samundragupta became the ruler. He was born from Lichhivi princess Kumar Devi. I used to take pride in calling myself a Lichchavi couple. Prayag Prashasti composed by Harishchandra gives detailed information about the victories of Samudragupta.

After the victory of Samudragupta, an Ashwamedha Yagya was performed and assumed the title of Ashwamedha Karta. Samudragupta was ever of a high order. He also wrote many poems under the name Kaviraj. On a coin he is shown playing the veena. The special committee called Samudragupta the Napoleon of India.

Chandragupta II Vikramaditya (380-413 AD)

After Samudragupta, Rama was the Gupta ruler, but he was a weak ruler, followed by Samudragupta II became the ruler, other names of Chandragupta II were Devraj and Devgupta. Chandragupta II introduced silver coins to commemorate the victory on the streets and assumed the title Shakari and issued Vyadhra style coins.

Chandragupta married his daughter Prabhavati with the Vakataka ruler Sudarshan. Scholars and artists were surprised in the court of Chandragupta. The Navratnas in his court were Kalidas, Dhanvantari, Kshapanaka, Amar Singh, Shanku, Vetal Bhatt, Ghatkar Par, Varahamihira, and Varruchi. The famous Chinese traveler Farhan came to India during this period.

Kumar Gupta (413-455 AD)

After Chandragupta Vikramaditya, his son Kumar became the ruler of the Gupta Empire. Kumar Gupta's mother's name was Dhurva Devi. Most of the records of Gupta rulers have been received from Kumar. During his reign there was an invasion of the Huns. Nalanda University was established during the reign of Kumar Gupta (415 – 454 AD).

Skanda Gupta (455-467 AD)

Skandagupta (454 – 467 AD) was the last great ruler of the Gupta dynasty. Skanda Gupta sent an ambassador to the court of the Chinese Song Emperor in 466 AD. The first evidence of the practice of Sati is found in the Eran inscription of 510 AD at the time of Bhanugupta, the ruler of the Gupta dynasty. The last ruler of the Gupta dynasty was Vishnugupta. The Gupta Empire collapsed in 570 AD.

Art

Various arts - sculpture, painting, architecture, music drama flourished in the Gupta era. The art of temple building was born in the Gupta period. The Dashavatara temple of Deogarh is the earliest example of a peak in Indian temple construction.

The Buddha statue of Sarnath, the idol of Vardhman Mahavira of Mathura, the idol of Varaha Avatar of Vidisha, the idol of Sheshasayi Vishnu of Jhansi, the idol of Krishna with Govardhan Dhari in Kashi are the prime examples of sculpture of Shiva. The paintings of Ajanta 16 and 17 and the tiger paintings were painted at this time, which are the best examples of painting. It is located in the state of Maharashtra.

Science

Aryabhata was a famous mathematician and astronomer of this era, he composed a treatise called Aryabhata, in which the line mathematics of arithmetic algebra has been discussed. Aryabhata proved in the book Surya Siddhanta that the earth revolves around the sun.

Varahamihira composed the texts of astronomy named Brihatsamhita and Panchasiddhantika, Brahman theory of customers is also a famous text of astronomy. Bhaskaracharya wrote Mahabhashyakray, Laghubhaskaraya. Dhanvantari and Sushruta were the eminent Vedas of this era.
