The historian Menelaos Charalambidis starts a new venture in the field of Public History. Since then in December it has been running regular historical walks with the participation of a small number of people each time.
In this way, there will be the possibility of an in-depth examination of the historical events, discussion and answers to the questions of the participants. After the completion of each walk, there will be a viewing and commentary of rare photographic material related to its theme.
"These kinds of walks will give us the opportunity to have a more meaningful communication. To discuss and through the discussion to fit the events into their historical context. History cannot be perceived as a stitching together of individual episodes in temporal succession. In addition, viewing photographic material and especially commenting on it will help us to better understand the events. The image is a valuable source and for this reason the photographs will have a central place in these historical walks", points out Menelaos Charalambidis.
Three historical walks covering two separate themes have already been planned and will take place in December.
The first examines an event that marked as little as any in modern Greek history:the EAM rally in Syntagma Square on December 3, 1944 and its bloody suppression, which marked the beginning of the Battle of Athens, known as the December Battle.
The second walk attempts to illuminate the darkest side of the occupation period:the action of the dosilogs, that is, those who collaborated with the conquerors.
