A Renaissance table set. A Florentine of the time never gave up on good wine
If we had the opportunity to sit at the table of a Florentine middle of the Renaissance, between the 15th and 16th centuries, in the middle of the Medici era , what could we expect to eat?
We would almost certainly be served a nice plate of pasta , staple of the daily diet at the time.
It was often fried or cooked in garlic , while the ravioli, after being removed from the cooking broth, they were usually sautéed and seasoned with cheese.
However, most likely lunch, to be eaten between nine and ten in the morning, would open with a fresh salad in season, followed by lovebirds, goat cheese and fruit .
The livers are also very popular and liver meatballs … Just to keep yourself light.
Finally, everything would be washed down with good wine fine , albeit in moderation.
A few glasses were considered very healthy for the spirit and for the body, so never give them up. (Source : Jean-Lucas Dubreton , Daily life in Florence at the time of the Medici ).
