Wat Phra That Pha Ngao Located in Chiang Saen Noi, Sop Kham area, about 3 kilometers southeast of the city moat of Chiang Saen, the current temple is located about 400 meters south of the Mekong River. Wat Phra That Pha Ngao Originally, it was an abandoned temple until around 1976, Wat Sop Kham on the Mekong River was eroded by water. collapse every year Therefore, the group of faith moved the temple to build on the hill of Doi Kham (Doi Chan), the abandoned temple area which is not too far from Wat Sop Kham.

Adjusting the abandoned temple area to build a new temple in 1976. Villagers found many antiques and the base of the original viharn. as well as found the stucco main Buddha image buried under the old Chukchi base inside the Viharn The villagers called "Luang Por Pha Ngao"
From the Yonok chronicles, it is stated that Khun Pha Phing or Khun Phing (Khun Phing), the 23rd ruler of Yonok during the year 494-512, built a chedi on a large rock at the foot of Doi Chan Mountain. which is understood to mean Phra That Pha Ngao in this temple Phra That Pha Ngao has greatly deteriorated. It is expected that there will be some restoration. because this relic is located on the lowest slope of the mountain which is easy to maintain and repair.
As for the creators of Phra That Chom Chan and Phra That Chet Yod on the same mountain as Phra That Pha Ngao The chronicles said When Khun Lang took over the city "Wiang Peksa" (Mueang Chiang Saen Noi) during the year 996-1007 he persuaded the villagers to help build a pagoda on top of Doi Kham. Which the locals now call "Tod Chan". This pagoda is Phra That Chom Chan and Phra That Chet Yot. These two chedi have deteriorated both by natural and human beings. The remaining traces of the base are about 5 meters.
Currently, Wat Phra That Pha Ngao is a Rat temple. Affiliated with Maha Nikaya According to the history of the temple, it was established in 1979 and was granted Wisung Kham Sima in 1999. The archaeological site inside Wat Phra That Pha Ngao has not been declared a historical site.

Phra That Pha Ngao is located at the eastern end of the foothills of Doi Kham Mountain. Inside Wat Phra That Pha Ngao Next to Luang Por Pha Ngao Temple It is a small relic or bell-shaped chedi made of bricks with an octagonal layout. Below the rock in front of the relics (East side of the relics) is constructed as a facade enshrining a Buddha image in a posture of life. The general condition of the relics is quite perfect. But some parts are starting to deteriorate. especially the base part where some bricks are broken off along with a tree growing on the relics
Luang Pho Pha Ngao and Luang Pho Pha Ngao Temple Viharn Luang Por Pha Ngao is located next to Phra That Pha Ngao. or located in the northeast of the relics Construction began in 1979 and was completed in 1992. Construction with reinforced concrete. Size:width 10 meters, length 28 meters, facing east Lanna style architecture decorated with stucco patterns There is a 2-storey cascading roof covered with clay tiles for glaze. The façade of the Viharn is decorated with stucco patterns in Chiang Saen art. The door is made of teak. Carved patterns about the Twelve Months Lanna tradition. The windows are made of teak wood with carvings depicting the story of the ten lifes and the Vessantara within the viharn. The wall is decorated with low-relief sculptures about the Buddha's history. Himmapan wildlife It was built to cover the original viharn with the existing ancient bricks. At the end of the viharn appears the remains of a brick base Chukchi. Above the base enshrines a large Buddha image, made of bricks, facing east. Currently, only the body (body) and arm (arm) are left on the side.
In front of the main Buddha image is enshrined another smaller Buddha image. (May be buried in the original Chukchi base) villagers called. "Luang Por Pha Ngao", the lap size is about 40 inches, faces east. From studying the art forms of this Buddha image in the past, it was found that its original appearance was not repaired because it was buried in the ground. Except for the hand, there should be some stucco molding over it. Buddha characteristics showing the influence of Sukhothai art, including the oval face Phra Rasmi is a flame with curved lines in the Sukhothai style, which is different from the general Buddha images of Chiang Saen. making amulet His eyes were low, his nose was high, his body was not plump. and slaughter in small lines All of these are very similar to the Buddha images in Sukhothai art. But the part that has some differences is the appearance of the small mouth. The hair is quite large. And the smile is different from the Sukhothai Buddha image. including Phra Hanu, who is almost a circle of hair. It is a characteristic that is found in Lanna art in Chiang Saen. And some of them are similar in appearance to the sandstone Buddha images of Phayao artisans, a group that was influenced by Sukhothai art. especially the characteristics of the mouth and the nose that are very sharp lines Therefore, Luang Por Pha Ngao is probably classified as a Chiang Saen Buddha image.
