What does it mean Patria O Muerte?

Patria o Muerte ("Fatherland or Death") was the slogan of the Cuban Revolution, coined in 1960 by Fidel Castro, based on the original "Libertad o Muerte" (Freedom or Death), which was itself based on the "Vencer o Morir" (Win or Die) expression used by Simón Bolívar during the Venezuelan War of Independence.

The symbol of the slogan is a red and black flag, designed by Antonio Perez Nieto. The flag is divided diagonally, with the red section on the left and top corners, and the black section on the right and bottom corners. In the center of the flag is a five-pointed white star. The red color symbolizes the blood that has been shed for the Cuban Revolution, while the black color symbolizes the mourning of those who died. The white star symbolizes the hope of victory.
