The direct heir of Esterhazy Houzards, created in 1764 in Phalsbourg by Count Esterhazy, a Hungarian nobleman in the service of France. After having participated in all the campaigns of the revolution, it was the imperial epic that enabled the 3 ° Hussars to write the most beautiful pages of its history. Dissolved for the first time in 1940, then recreated in 1945, it joined North Africa (Morocco then Algeria). In December 1962, it returned to France. In 1963, it is garrisoned in Pforzheim (Germany) and is the only reconnaissance Rgt of the 2nd Army Corps. In October 1990 it is integrated into the Franco-German Brigade of which it is the only armored unit in Immendigen.
