After the decline of the Indus Valley Civilization, a new culture emerged in India, which was quite different from its predecessor civilization, which is known as Vedic culture. Vedic culture is divided into two parts - Rig Vedic period and later Vedic period
Rivadic period
The source of information about the Rigvedic period (from 1500 BC to 1000 AD) is Rigveda. At this time the Vedic Aryans used to lead a temporary life. The region created by the Rigveda Aryans was called Sampat Saindhav Pradesh.
Seven major rivers flow in the region, these rivers are - Indus, Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, Jhelum, Vyas and Saraswati. In Rigveda, this region is also called Brahmin fast. The peak of the Himalayas has been called Mujwant in the Rigveda.
Social Structure
The basis of the Rigvedic social structure was the family. The family was patriarchal. The head of the family was called Kulap. In the patriarchal society, women were given due respect. Women lived more independent lives. Women also had the freedom to get education and to join political institutions. In the Rigveda period, there are mentions of learned women like Apala, Sikta, Vishwavara, Lopamudra.
Economic life
The life of the Aryans was inspired by materialism. Animals were of utmost importance in the economy. The description of the battle for the cow is found in the Rig Veda. The property was counted in the form of rai i.e. cattle.
In addition to cows, goats, beds and horses were also reared. There is a discussion of yava and grain in the Rigveda, which means that the Rigveda Arya used to pay more attention to the cultivation.
