archaeological essence

Wat Athit Ton Kaew was built by Phra Muang Kaew. Mayor of Chiang Mai When he came to Chiang Saen in the year 2049 (or A.D. 2058), which corresponds to the reign of Muen Mani, ruled the city of Chiang Saen. And it is a temple that Phra Muang Kaew used as a meeting of monks on 3 sides in 2015 to reduce conflicts and compromise between different monks. and is the president of the ordination of the Chiang Saen Cultivator in those monks who can perform the rituals together.

According to the chronicles, threw over the temple such as Ton Kaeo built in the reign of Phra Muang Kaew. When Chulachak 877 (AD 2058) “....began digging the roots on Friday, the 5th month, the 9th night of the pig year, until on Friday, the 5th month, the 1st night of the waning moon, the base of the pagoda was 15 wa wide, 1 line 5 wa high. Let the boats be tied parallel in the river of A congregation of 108 monks, presided over by the King of Wat Photharam, Chiang Mai. and then ordained other monks A total of 1010 newly ordained monks came from Chiang Saen to settle in Chiang Rai....”

In addition to the Ionian chronicles In the 61th chronicle meeting, there is also a story about the temple at Ton Kaew that "Phra Muang Kaew Luk Phra Muang Yot Having eaten Chiang Mai for two, then he came up and made merit to eat at the city of money, Yang Chiang Saen, here and there. You have many castles of faith in Buddhism.

A.D. 876, the year of the year (A.D. 2057), he built a temple in Wiang Chiang Saen there, a viharn 7 wa wide, 9 wa high, built a pagoda 4 wa wide, 12 wa high, containing 868 minor elements. His Highness built 84,000 Dharma Pitaka. complete So put the name of Wat Athit Kaew"

Important archaeological sites of the temple include viharn, ubosot and pagoda.

The Temple It is located in front or east of the pagoda. Rectangular shape, brick masonry, high wall, wooden roof clay tile facing east On the base of Chukchi enshrined a stucco Buddha image sitting. This sanctuary was built on top of the original sanctuary. There is a lonely staircase in the south. Connected to a walkway leading to a small chapel located to the south of the pagoda.

Jedi Wat Athit Ton Kaeo is a brick chedi. Found that there are 2 overlapping bodies, with the outer one being built over the inner one. The Fine Arts Department has removed some parts of the outer chedi. to show the inner pagoda

The outer chedi is a Lanna-style bell-shaped body that supports the bell as a set of 3 high lotus bases decorated with 2 crystal beads to support the bell body on an octagonal base, similar to the chedi of Wat Saen Mueang Ma. Wat Phra That Song Phi Nong and Wat Phra Yuen, which are the most popular and most common designs in Chiang Saen during the mid to late 21st Buddhist century.

The form of the chedi in the It is a lotus bud stupa with a high base (for that high base may look like a house element similar to the inner chedi of Wat Phra Buat that appears the elemental house is low, almost on the ground with a low base to support it) similar to a chedi in the shape of a castle top in Sukhothai style but there is no adjustment to the elemental house Therefore, it is assumed that this chedi was influenced by the art of Suthai in the early stages. The Lanna was greatly influenced by Sukhothai in the reign of King Kue Na. In order to bring Sumon Synod from Subothai to make offerings to the Lanna monks in the early 20th Buddhist century (1913), it is expected that the inner chedi would probably be built in the early reign of King Kue Na. 20th century buddhist

The reason for the construction of the chedi at Wat Ton Kaew believe that it was done in order to carry on Buddhism as well as covering the chedi of Wat Phra Buat Or it may be the result of a conflict between a religious sect, the Suan Dok Sect and the Red Forest Sect.

As for antiques excavated in 1995, most of them date from the 21st - 22nd Buddhist century, contemporary with the outer chedi, such as a bronze Buddha image in the subduing Mara that has been influenced by Sukhothai. bronze buddha head and the head of the sandstone Buddha image, etc.
