archaeological essence

Wat Sa Phang is located in the ancient community of Ban Bua Simma. Inside the temple, there is important archaeological evidence, which is a sandstone parapet, which is placed in many leaves. It is assumed that it was a sema in the Dvaravati period. Has been registered as an ancient site

A survey conducted by the Fine Arts Department in 1983 found that Baan Bua Simma can be divided into 4 parts:Baan Bua Sima, Don Pu Ta, Don Tan and Nonok Krang. Ancient sites and antiques Within Wat Sa Phang, 15 sema blades and 1 sandstone naga were found, as well as a survey to make a plan to announce the registration of the ancient monuments of the Fine Arts Department in 2003.

From the 2014 survey of the Sirindhorn Anthropology Center (Public Organization) found that Wat Sa Phang Today it is a temple that is still in use. It is a royal temple under the Maha Nikaya. The southern area of the temple is close to the temple gate and the sermon hall. (On the east side of the chanting hall) found 14 sandstone parapets encircling the area in a circle, including 1 sandstone naga fragment, 16-17 meters south of the serpent parapet. Against the temple wall, another piece of sandstone sema (pillar?) was found lying on it. In total, 15 sandstone parapets and 1 sandstone naga were found, according to survey results in 1983 and 2003. Northeast from the area where the parapet was found There is one ancient rectangular pond.

The current location of the parapet is slightly different from 2003, with the parapet number 14 (according to a 2003 survey) missing from its original position. is beside parapet number 15 in the area adjacent to the temple fence in the south But there appears 1 additional parapet in the encirclement, located between the 1st and 12th parapet, which may be the 14th parapet that has been moved? But the abbot of Wat Sa Phang, who has been a native of Ban Bua Sim since birth (Currently 83 years old) informs that these parapets have never been moved from their original position. Also, the position of the tree has changed.
