How did surplus food affect the growth of Mesopotamia?

Surplus food allowed for social changes in Mesopotamia that facilitated greater social and economic stratification of its population, increasing trade between peoples, technological innovation in the realm of food production and increased time, allowing more people who did not farm, or engage in food production to engage in crafts, trade, the arts, science, and mathematics which all led to the cultural, technological, scientific, and social growth and innovations that allowed ancient Mesopotamia to emerge.
