Hephaestion was Alexander the Great's closest friend and most trusted general. They grew up together in Macedonia and shared a strong bond of friendship that lasted until Hephaestion's death in 324 BC. Alexander relied heavily on Hephaestion's advice and counsel, and often entrusted him with key positions of responsibility. Hephaestion also served as Alexander's second-in-command during the latter's military campaigns, playing a crucial role in his conquests.
