Did the puritans not want to be peaceful with natives?

While the relationship between the Puritans and Native Americans was complex and varied, it is generally true that the Puritans did not have peaceful intentions towards them. The Puritans believed that they were the chosen people of God and that they had a right to the land in America. They viewed the Native Americans as heathens and obstacles to their mission of building a godly society. As a result, many Puritans actively sought to convert or displace the Native Americans.
