How is nee used in writing?

In formal writing, the main use of the word 'nee' is to indicate a woman's maiden name. When writing someone's name by indicating maiden name, it is placed between two commas preceded by the word 'nee' followed by a period. An example is: Sarah Jones, née Smith. Another use of 'nee' is in scientific names, where it is placed between the genus name and the species name to indicate that a species has been moved to a different genus.
