Troas , also Troad called , the country of Troy , ancient area mainly defined by the northwest projection Asia Minor (modern Turkey ) into the Aegean . It extended from the Gulf of Edremit (ancient Adramyttion) in the south to the Sea of Marmara and the Dardanelles north and from Ida- Mountains and their northern foothills in the east to the Aegean Sea in the west. In the southeast corner is Mount Ida (modern Kaz Mountain), which rises to an elevation of 1,774 meters. The eastern and southern regions are rugged and partially forested. Fed by springs in the Ida Mountains, the Scamander (Küçükmenderes Çayı) has cut through the hills into the plain to the northwest and empties into the Aegean just before the Hellespont into the Hellespont.
