The Oldest City in America?
At the same time that the inhabitants of ancient Egypt were building their pyramids, the population of what is now Peru erected giant massive stone structures in CARAL, a metropolis that existed 4,600 years ago. The remains of the city, discovered in 1905, have only now been studied by American and Peruvian archaeologists. The conclusion is surprising:Caral was probably the cradle of civilization in the Americas. Scientists from the Field Museum, in Chicago, from the University of Northen Illinois, both in the USA, and from the University of San Marcos, in Peru, publish in one of the editions of the magazine "Science" the results of the evaluation of pieces collected in Caral. Research has revealed that the city had its heyday in the year 2627 BC. This means that the development of urban life in the Americas began about 800 years earlier than previously believed. Located 200 kilometers from Lima, Caral is characterized by the existence of a central area, with six stone plateaus, around what would be the local public square.
