Does a baron have surname?

A baron is a member of the lowest rank of the peerage, below a viscount and above a baronet. In most cases, a baron will have a surname, as it is part of their full name. For example, the full name of the current Baron Rothschild is Nathaniel Charles Jacob Rothschild. However, there are some cases where a baron may not have a surname, such as if they are the illegitimate child of a noble father.
