The following graphic information provides some interesting data on two current issues as December 6, the day of the Constitution of 1978, approaches. The first is the list of referendums held in Spain during the democratic period and their results; the second is the result, distributed by province, of the referendum to approve the current constitution.
In the latter case, we can consider the following results to be significant:
- The low turnout in the Basque Country and the lower weight of the affirmative vote.
- Andalusia and Catalonia were the territories where the highest percentage obtained the yes.
- Madrid presented a lower affirmative vote, for example, than Catalonia. This data can be explained by the weight of the bureaucratic apparatus of the Franco regime still present in state agencies.
