The period of the Democratic Sexenio was one of the brief stages in which, during the 19th century, the progressive forces dominated the Spanish political scene. The product of these governments was the elaboration of two constitutions considered progressive:that of 1869, which introduced a parliamentary monarchy far removed from the oligarchic Bourbon model, and that of 1873, the first republican constitution in Spain. The latter never entered into force, swept away by the vertigo with which political events developed between 1873 and 1874.
Despite its non-use, it is necessary to approach, even succinctly, its main characteristics.
