Why is Kwanzaa celebrated in America?

Kwanzaa is an African-American and Pan-African holiday originating in the United States, and primarily observed in the United States and countries with significant African descendants (such as Jamaica). It is celebrated from December 26 to January 1, during which participants often engage in activities such as gift-giving, feasting, candle-lighting, discussions of African culture and history, and decorating their homes with symbolic items of African heritage.
