Historical story

What job did Levi Strauss have?

Levi Strauss was a German-born American businessman who founded the Levi Strauss & Co. clothing company. He is credited with inventing blue jeans. Strauss started his career as a dry goods merchant in New York City, but he later moved to San Francisco during the California Gold Rush. In 1853, he opened a dry goods store in San Francisco with his brother-in-law, David Stern. They began selling blue denim work pants to miners and other laborers. The pants were popular because they were durable and long-lasting. In 1873, Strauss patented the design for the blue jeans and the Levi's brand was born. Strauss died in 1902, but the Levi Strauss & Co. company continued to grow and expand. Today, it is one of the most well-known clothing companies in the world.
