Joan of Arc, also known as the "Maid of Orleans" in the only contemporary portrait that has come down to us
By Joan of Arc , the brave Maid of Orleans condemned to the stake for heresy in 1431 (https://www.pilloledistoria.it/7340/medioevo/la-morte-di-giovanna-darco-secondo-un-testimone-oculare), we have only one image of her coeval , “Live”, which is the one shown in the photo attached to this post ( above ).
It is not a real portrait, but just a drawing, a rather stylized sketch, which nevertheless gives us an idea, albeit brief, of the physical appearance of the French saint, of which the slender and extremely youthful figure is evident.
This extemporaneous work of the highest historical and documentary value, was performed in May 1429 by a secretary of the Supreme Court of Paris immediately after the news of the liberation of Orléans and is now preserved in the National Archives of Paris .
