Gatow Airport was a training center for German Luftwaffe pilots until its occupation by the Soviets in 1945. After the end of the war, the site became the military airport for the British sector of Berlin. Following the withdrawal of the British in 1994, Gatow Airport became Germany's military air museum. The museum occupies different buildings, hangars and a large outdoor space.
In the aircraft exhibition you can see aircraft from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. The pieces of the world wars are the most significant. The triplane that the Red Baron piloted in the First World Cup stands out, as well as several planes from the Nazi Lftwaffe or a copy of V1, a cruise rocket designed to bomb Great Britain from France.
The uniform exhibition traces the history of German aviation. Uniforms from the world wars and the cold war period are displayed. The most outstanding piece is Hermann Göring's Reich Marshal's uniform.
