Being the place where the Second World War began on September 1, 1939, the city of Gdansk, formerly Danzig, has been carrying out in recent years the enhancement of the places that are reminiscent of the war.
In former spaces belonging to its huge shipyards, the Museum of the Second World War has been located for a short time. This modern museum allows us to go through all the episodes that led to the outbreak of the conflict and everything that happened during the 6 long years of conflict.
The museum narrates in a faithful and didactic way all the aspects of the war, from the military to the social or economic ones. The explanation is not only focused on Poland but covers the whole world. Throughout the exhibition you can see objects, photographs, documents and films of the time, in addition to the testimonies of dozens of witnesses of the same.
The exhibition also pays special attention to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany, since the deadliest were on the soil of Poland occupied by German forces.
The exhibition is so complete that it is worth visiting for at least 3 hours, being able to stay quietly in the museum if one has energy for up to 5-6 hours. The museum is a must see if you are in Gdansk. To find out the opening hours and admission prices, you can consult the official website of the Second World War Museum in Gdansk.
