How many presidents finish their terms due to an illness or assassinated otherwise?

There have been four U.S. presidents who died in office due to illness or assassination:

* William Henry Harrison died of pneumonia in 1841, just one month after taking office.

* Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865, five days after the end of the American Civil War.

* James A. Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau in 1881 and died of blood poisoning two months later.

* Warren G. Harding died of a heart attack in 1923 while on a speaking tour of the Western United States.
