In May 1923, the British Collector of Nagpur banned the carrying of the tricolor flag. On this, the batches of Swarajists started taking out flags and making arrests. One day Jamnalal Bajaj, leading the Swarajists, took out a flag procession. They were also taken prisoner.
When Sardar Patel got this news, he also reached Nagpur to lead the movement. Declaring the order of the District Collector invalid, he announced to continue the flag movement. On this the Collector called Sardar Patel for talks.
Sardar Patel reached the office of the Collector and explained to him that there is no justification and no legal basis to stop such movements.
The Collector had understood that when Sardar Patel had jumped into the movement, its result would not be good for the British rule, so the Collector accepted Patel's advice and lifted the ban on carrying the tricolor flag. He also released all the imprisoned Satyagrahis.
