History of Kol Rebellion (1831- 32 AD)

This rebellion, which took place in the Chotanagpur region in 1831 AD, holds an unforgettable place in the history of India. The main reason for this rebellion was the discontent over land relations. In fact it was Mundo's rebellion. In which the people of 'Ho' Urao and other tribes were also included 'Ho' and Munda people were traditionally responsible for village administration and revenue collection in the house. But the British government had given the responsibility of this zone to different states.

These zamindars used to collect tax from their ryots randomly, due to which the discontent of the Kolas, the residents there, started increasing. But, the immediate reason for the Kol rebellion was to snatch their land from Chota Nagpur's Maharaj Bhai Harnath Singh and hand it over to his loved ones. The main leaders of this revolt against the exploitative system spread in the western part of Ranchi, Hazirabagh, Palamu and Manbhum were- Buddha Bhagat, Vinad Rai, Singh Rai and Surga Munda.

800 to 1000 people died in this rebellion along with Buddha Bhagat and his family members. Singrai, Vinad Rai, and Durga fought till the end, but finally on March 19, 1835, they had to surrender to the British army.
