Why did native Americans of the great plains live and tepees instead wooden houses?

It is not true that Great Plains Native Americans lived in teepees instead of wooden houses. In fact, prior to the arrival of Europeans and the depletion of buffalo herds, they would construct earth lodges which were covered in either mud or grass. These lodgings often had conical shapes but were still classified as lodges rather than teepees. Some plains tribes did still use teepees though, including:

* Blackfoot

* Comanche

* Crow

* Gros Ventre

* Plains Apache

* Plains Cree

* Sarsi

* Siksika

* Stoney
