What are medieval catapalts used for?

Catapults, also known as siege engines, were used in medieval times to launch projectiles at defensive fortifications during warfare. Their primary purpose was to breach, batter, or dismantle enemies' castles, city walls, towers, and gates, making way for invading troops. Catapults served as powerful offensive weapons that could significantly sway the outcome of a siege or a battle. These siege engines could hurl large stones, sometimes weighing over 100 pounds, as well as other heavy objects towards the adversary's fortifications, causing tremendous damage from a significant distance.
