In the Medieval times did people in castle get paid for working?

In medieval times, the vast majority of people who lived in castles were not paid for their work. Instead, they were serfs, or peasants, who were bound to the land and owed their labor to the lord of the castle. Serfs were not paid wages, but they were given a small plot of land to farm for their own subsistence. If a serf wanted to leave the castle, they had to pay a fee to the lord, and they could not leave without the lord's permission.

There were a few exceptions to this rule. Some skilled workers, such as blacksmiths and carpenters, could earn wages for their work. And some knights and other noblemen who lived in castles were paid for their military service. However, the vast majority of people who lived in castles were serfs who were not paid for their work.
