What did a Roman emperor do?

Roman emperors held absolute power and were responsible for all aspects of governing the Roman Empire. Their duties included:

- Making laws and administering justice

- Commanding the military and conducting foreign policy

- Overseeing the economy and public works projects

- Appointing officials and managing the civil service

- Issuing edicts and decrees

- Acting as chief religious official

- Representing the empire and its citizens
