Ancient history

Why did the Victorians use horses to pull wooden vehicles in old times for transport?

Horses were indeed used for transport in olden times, but they did not pull wooden vehicles. Wooden wheels were indeed employed in earlier centuries, but by Victorian times, most vehicles used iron-rimmed wheels.

Additionally, during the Victorian period, which spanned from the early 19th century to the late 19th century, steam locomotion had become prominent. While horses remained a significant means of transportation, automobiles, trains, and steam-powered ships were the primary modes of long-distance travel.

The use of wooden vehicles had largely diminished by the Victorian period, and metal had replaced wood in most modes of transportation.
