How old is the Aztec civilization?

The Aztec civilization flourished in central Mexico in the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries. The Aztecs were a Nahuatl-speaking people who migrated to the Valley of Mexico from Aztlan, a legendary place in the north. They founded their capital city, Tenochtitlan, in 1325 on an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco. The Aztec Empire was at its height in the 15th century, when it controlled much of central and southern Mexico. The empire was conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century.
