Authorization of married women to work without their husband's consent

  • Women have always worked. They exercise limited professions and are excluded from the most prestigious professions. Women's work is perceived as an obstacle to family life:the woman is above all a wife and a mother. They can work only with the agreement of their husband. They are financially dependent on their husbands.
  • The Glorious Thirties (1946-1975) were an economic and social context favorable to female employment.

July 13, 1965

Procedure

The law of 13 July 1965 relating to new patrimonial regimes authorizes women to practice the profession they wish and they can have their own income. They have the right to open a bank account in their own name without the consent of their husband. The law declares that women can receive unemployment benefits, as they are no longer considered a dependent for their husband.

Consequences

If they wish, women can be financially independent and freely dispose of their income. These elements ensure greater freedom for women.
