Does the poppy represent wars in any way?

The remembrance poppy is a symbol of remembrance for soldiers who died in World War I and later conflicts. It was inspired by the 1915 poem "In Flanders Fields", written by Canadian physician and Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. The poem describes the red poppies that grew between the graves of soldiers in Flanders, Belgium, during the First World War. Since then, the poppy has come to symbolize sacrifice, remembrance, and hope. It is used to commemorate Memorial Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in many Commonwealth countries.
