Why did Egyptian pray to hapi?

Hapi was the ancient Egyptian god of the annual flooding of the Nile River. The Nile River was essential to the survival of the ancient Egyptians, as it provided water for irrigation, drinking, and transportation. The annual flooding of the Nile brought fertile soil to the land, which allowed the Egyptians to grow crops. As such, Hapi was a very important god to the ancient Egyptians, and they prayed to him to ensure that the Nile would flood each year.
