What were the Early Battles?

The First Battle of Bull Run (also known as the First Battle of Manassas) was the first major battle of the American Civil War. It was fought on July 21, 1861, in Prince William County, Virginia, near the towns of Manassas and Bull Run. The battle was a Confederate victory and marked the beginning of a long and bloody conflict between the North and the South.

The Battle of Shiloh (also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing) was fought on April 6–7, 1862, in southwestern Tennessee. It was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, with over 23,000 casualties. The battle was a Union victory and marked a turning point in the war.

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought on July 1–3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was the largest battle ever fought in North America, with over 160,000 troops engaged. The battle was a Union victory and marked the beginning of the end of the Confederacy.

The Battle of Vicksburg was fought on May 18–July 4, 1863, in and around the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. It was a Union victory and marked the end of Confederate control of the Mississippi River.

The Battle of Appomattox Court House was fought on April 9, 1865, in Appomattox County, Virginia. It was the last major battle of the Civil War and marked the surrender of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia to the Union Army.
