Bit Adini , old Aramaic kingdom in Mesopotamia, lies on either side of the middle Euphrates south of Carchemish . Probably founded in the 10th century bc , it was conquered by the Assyrians at Shalmaneser III in 856. The capital, Til Barsib (Til Barsip; modern Tall al-Aḥmar) was renamed Kar-Shulmanashared (Kai of Shalmaneser) and became Assyrian appointed provincial capital and garrison town. Til Barsib was later captured by the Chaldean king Nabopolassar in 611 and never regained its former importance.
