Subötai (c. 1176 - 1248) was the leader of the "reindeer people", a tribe in central Mongolia. He participated in the conquests of Asia with Genghis Khan. He was one of its best generals and is considered one of the greatest strategists of all time.
In particular, he drew up the Khwarezm invasion plan during the 1248 campaign. in Russia where they defeated the Russian princes who had come to meet them with 80,000 men. He was also at the head of the army of 200,000 men during the campaign of 1237 which invaded the Russian steppes to found the Golden Horde.
