Who were the Slavs during World War 1?

During World War I, the Slavs were a diverse group of ethnic groups living in Eastern Europe. They included peoples such as the Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks, Slovenes, Bulgarians, and Macedonians. Many Slavs lived within the borders of the Russian Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the Balkans.

They formed the majority population in several countries in the region and played a significant role in the war. During World War I, many Slavic peoples found themselves fighting on both sides of the conflict.
