History of Europe

Where did the moravians come from?

The Moravians originated from the followers of the Bohemian religious reformer Jan Hus, who was executed in 1415 for his beliefs. Following Hus's execution, his followers, known as Hussites, were persecuted by the Catholic Church. In the 15th century, a group of Hussites known as the Moravian Brethren emerged in the region of Moravia, which is now part of the Czech Republic.

Over time, the Moravian Brethren faced continued persecution and religious oppression, leading them to seek refuge in various parts of Europe. In the 18th century, a group of Moravians led by Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf established a settlement in Herrnhut, Germany, which became a center for their community. From there, Moravian missionaries spread to various parts of the world, including the Americas, Europe, and Africa, where they founded new settlements and communities.
