Why did Stalin become an ally of the western powers?

Joseph Stalin never truly became a genuine ally of the western powers.

Although he maintained a tactical alliance with the United Kingdom, France, and the United States during World War II, this alliance was primarily born out of necessity to defeat their common enemy, Nazi Germany.

There was always a deep mutual distrust and ideological rift between Stalin's communist regime and the capitalist, democratic principles of the Western powers.
