If politics were a scale on which RESPONSIBILITY was weighed , we could put all the politicians of the last century on one side and Zaleuco on the other, and the balance would tip in favor of the Greek.

But in addition to this act of extreme responsibility he was also an ingenious politician. To eradicate ostentation, sumptuousness and certain customs from Locris:
A free woman who is accompanied only by a servant, unless she is drunk.
That women do not leave the city at night, unless they are going to commit adultery.
That women do not wear golden clothes or embroidered dresses, unless they are prostitutes.
That men do not wear golden rings or dress similar to the Milesian (inhabitants of Miletus), unless they frequent prostitutes or are going to commit adultery .
