History of South America

What is the biggest loss of life in American history?

The Civil War (1861-1865) is considered to be the deadliest conflict in American history, resulting in an estimated 620,000 to 750,000 deaths. The exact number of casualties is uncertain due to incomplete records, but it is believed that more Americans died during the Civil War than in all other American wars combined. The vast majority of these deaths were a result of combat, but many soldiers also succumbed to disease and infection, as well as poor sanitation and medical practices of the time.
