How many slaves are in the world?

Slavery is considered a human rights violation and is illegal in every country in the world. However, according to estimates by groups such as the Walk Free Foundation, an estimated 40.3 million people were living in a form of modern slavery in 2021. These individuals may be subjected to forced labor, debt bondage, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, or commercial sexual exploitation. It's important to note that estimates vary and modern slavery can be difficult to accurately measure due to its hidden and illegal nature.
