History of South America

What is and example of active resistance by slaves?

One example of active resistance by slaves was the formation of maroon communities. Maroons were escaped slaves who had formed independent settlements, often in remote areas such as mountains or swamps. These communities provided a space for slaves to escape the harsh conditions of slavery and live freely. Maroons often engaged in armed resistance against slave owners and colonial forces, and some maroon communities even managed to maintain their independence for long periods of time.
