The Plymouth colony was settled by a group of English Puritans known as the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were a religious group who believed in the separation of church and state and the right to worship freely. They were persecuted in England for their beliefs and decided to leave for the New World in search of religious freedom.
Why did they do so?
The Pilgrims left England for religious freedom and to escape the persecution they faced there. They also believed that they could establish a new society in the New World based on their religious principles and values. They wanted to create a community where they could worship freely and live in accordance with their beliefs without fear of persecution.
