Meet the authors of the last 5 volumes of our Peruvian Educational Thought Collection

The influence of the indigenist movement , which had sublime manifestations in Peruvian literature and painting (just to mention two artistic expressions), in educational thought; the contributions of Jorge Basadre and Clos Cueto Fernandini , pillars of the first inventories in national education; the Educational Reform of 1972, promoted by the Velasco government, which brought together the most important intellectuals and academics of the time to design a better educational system; the discovery that racial and linguistic diversity is a national strength and its consequent vindication through the concept of interculturality, applied to education and the educational efforts of democratic governments between 1980 and 2011; These are the topics addressed in the last third of the 15 volumes of the monumental Peruvian Educational Thought Collection , edited by Spill Magisterial, which will be presented this Thursday, March 27, from 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (Jesus Maria). Meet the authors of these five interesting books:


Antonio Zapata Velasco

Historian, he began his studies at the Catholic University and graduated from the University of Paris. He then studied for a master's and doctorate at Columbia University in New York. He is a professor at the Department of Humanities at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) and at the Department of Social Sciences at the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM). At the same time, he has ventured into the media:he directs a cultural program on TV and writes a weekly column in the newspaper La República.

José Rivero Herrera

Educator, with studies in Arequipa (Escuela Normal Superior and Universidad Nacional de San Agustín) and postgraduate studies in Michoacán, Mexico (CREFAL). For twenty years (1980-2000) he was a specialist at the UNESCO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. He has been a member of the first National Education Council (2002-2008). The Ministry of Education awarded him the Palmas Magisteriales in the degree of Amauta in 2006. He is the author of Adult Education in Latin America:Challenges of Equity and Modernization (1993); Andean regional policies for the development of rural schools (2005); Education and social actors against poverty in Latin America (2008), among others.

Patricia Oliart Sotomayor

Professor of Latin American Studies at the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom. She has a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, a Master's degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in Human Geography from the University of Newcastle. She is the author of Educational Policies and the Culture of the Peruvian School System (2011), among other critical studies on education in Peru.

Lucy Trapnell Forero

Anthropologist and Master in Education from the University of Bath (Great Britain). She is currently an advisor and guest teacher for the Decentralized Teacher Training Program that the Regional Association of Indigenous Peoples of the Central Jungle (ARPI-SC) develops with the National University of San Marcos. She has made several publications on intercultural bilingual education. Among her main works stand out:Being a teacher in Peru (with Marta López de Castilla and Moisés Rengifo, 1989); and Interculturality, knowledge and power (with Albina Calderón and River Flores, 2008).

Virginia Zavala Cisneros

PhD. in Sociolinguistics from Georgetown University (USA). She is currently a professor and researcher at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Her books address the problem of language and education from ethnography and discourse analysis. Among her publications are:(Un)encounters with writing:School and community in the Peruvian Andes (2002); Orality and power:methodological tools (with Víctor Vich, 2004); Say and shut up. Language, equity and power in the Peruvian university (with Gavina Córdova, 2010).

Ricardo Cuenca Couple

he is a social psychologist and doctor in Education from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is also a principal investigator at the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) and a founding member of the Peruvian Educational Research Society (SIEP). He has been president of the Educational Forum of Peru, coordinator of the German Cooperation Education Program in Peru (Proeduca-GTZ) and responsible for the research component of the Regional Program of Policies for the Teaching Profession of the UNESCO Regional Office for Education. for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC) in Chile.
