History of Oceania

Is the Philippine islands owned by US?

The Philippine Islands are not owned by the United States. The Philippines is a sovereign nation that has been independent since 1946. The United States, however, has a long and complex history with the Philippines, dating back to the Spanish-American War of 1898. After that war, the United States took control of the Philippines from Spain and held it as a colony for nearly 50 years. The Philippines gained its independence from the United States in 1946, but the United States continued to maintain a military presence in the country until 1992. The Philippines and the United States have a close relationship today, but the Philippines is a fully sovereign nation.
