When did children start working in mines?

The employment of children in mines dates back to the early days of industrialisation in the 18th and 19th centuries. In many countries, children were commonly used as cheap labour in dangerous and unhealthy mining conditions. The widespread practice of child labour in mines was driven by several factors, including the demand for cheap labour, the lack of regulation and enforcement, and the prevailing social attitudes towards children. This exploitative practice often resulted in poor working conditions, health hazards, and limited access to education for children. Child labour in mines continued in some parts of the world until the late 19th and early 20th centuries before reforms and regulations were introduced to protect children's rights and ensure safe working conditions.
